Introduction

This proposal was prepared in accordance with the requirements of Part V of the Biosecurity Act 1993. It proposed that the National Pest Management Strategy (NPMS) be amended to extend the duration that is provided for in the Biosecurity (National Bovine Tuberculosis Pest Management Strategy) Order 1998, being 1 July 2001.

The strategy is directed at the eradication from domestic cattle and deer of bovine tuberculosis, the infection caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium bovis.
